The Story
- Continuing our series of posts proving that even kickers and lineman land hot chicks, let's meet Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski's wife, Hallie Gostkowski.
The former Hallie Swearingen met Stephen Gostkowski while the two shared anatomy and physiology class at the University of Memphis together. Hallie continued that path, now working as a nurse in the greater Boston area. Stephen and Hallie dated through college before he proposed following the 2007 season. The couple was married April 19, 2008 and play parents to one child, son Slayden Kyle and two dogs.
In an interview with WHDH-TV in Boston, Hallie says the following about her husband:
I have 100 percent confidence in Stephen's ability. It's a talent that he's blessed with. He's not going to make every kick. I'm a nurse, I have bad days, he has bad days.

The Story
- Haloti Ngata of the Baltimore Ravens defensive front married long time girlfriend Christina Adams in 2007, a year after entering the NFL. The two had been dating since attending Highland High School in Salt Lake City together. The couple has one child together; son Solomone "Sam" Ngata. Solomone was given his first name in honor of Haloti's father who was killed in a traffic accident when Haloti was a freshman at Oregon. His mother died less than four years later after complications from diabetes.
In an interview with the Ravens official website, Haloti reflected on how fatherhood had changed his life with Christina after experiencing a tragic miscarriage in 2008:
It was just me and my wife for a long time. To have your own child, it makes you think about more than yourself. When it's just you and your wife, you're kind of just like selfish. You can do your own thing, do whatever you want. Having a son made me realize there are a lot of things more important than myself. It kind of carried over to the field. I'm more of a guy that tries to help the team than try to get stats for myself. It's actually made me get more stats, playing selfless. It's just been a great blessing.

The Story
- David Akers and wife Erika founded a charitable foundation in 2001, called "Kicks for Kids." The charity seeks to serve sick children and their families, who are getting treatment at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Ten years after establishing the founation, David and Erika experienced the pain that parents experience in dealing with a sick child. After missing a pair of field goal attempts during the 2011 playoffs against the Green Bay Packers, Akers teammate Quintin Mikell was quick to his defense, but only cited an off field issue. It wasn't until weeks later that Akers revealed that his daughter Halley had to have a tumor removed around that time. Erika Akers acknowledged to the Philadelphia Inquirer that she knew something was wrong during the game:
“I could tell he was there doing his job. But he wasn’t there.”
Last public updates indicate Haley's surgery was a success and the entire malignant tumor was removed.
David and Erika have two other children, sons Luke and Sawyer and the family now lives in the San Francisco area.

The Story
- We can't lie.... Kara Mankins is an enigma.
We do know that Kara Mankins is the wife of Patriots LG/enforcer/nastiest dude in any scrum, Logan Mankins. We also know that Logan and Kara have two kids together, but beyond that, information is scarce.
Through various online searches, the Mankins appear to be very charitable, spending time with various organizations. Along with the wives of other Boston area athletes, Kara helped to host a successful Christmas Toys for Tots drive. They have also worked with the JFF Muscle Dream Team, which bills itself as "professional athletes helping to find cures for all congenital myopathies."
The Mankins have also donated to Logan's alma mater, donating to the former football team to help build a new field-turf playing surface. The Mankins have been thanked by having the phrase, "The Mankins Family" painted onto one sideline.

The Story
- In three years of researching, and generating our own unique posts, we've learned a few things about the trends and patterns of the romantic lives of professional athletes. One pattern is that frequently athletes marry athletes, which is the case here.
Meet Sanya Richards Ross, US Olympian and wife of Giants cornerback Aaron Ross.
Sanya is a multiple gold medal winner in Track & Field. At the 2004 Athens game, Sanya was a member of the gold winning 4x400 team before the medal was stripped when a member of the relay admitted to doping. At Bejing in 2008, the team repeated their victory, only this time without being later stripped of their gold medal. Sanya also took home the Bronze in the individual 400m. She has won another five golds at the World Championships; four in the 4x400 and one in the individual 400m. She also has a silver in the 400m in 2005 World Games.
In 2011, Aaron and Sanya were awarded with the Goala Athlete Heroes award from Southwest Seton Healthcare. The award is identified as "Southwest Goala Athlete Heroes Award for outstanding leadership, community service and excellence in an athletic field."
Sanya and Aaron began dating in 2003, getting engaged in 2007, and finally getting hitched on February 26, 2010. Their wedding was featured on the show Platinum Weddings a short lived show on WE. The couple has no children.
