The 2021 NBA playoffs have been a unique ride, and no one knows that better than Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend Elsa Shafer.

Kevin Huerter was a standout at Maryland, where he played his college ball before being drafted nineteenth overall by Atlanta in 2018. While he had a successful collegiate career, his national coming out party on a professional level, didn’t really take place until the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. With the Hawks in a fight for their lives, and down their biggest star Trae Young, Huerter answered the bell. The nicknames came in fast and furious. Huerter She Wrote. Red Velvet. Ronald Threesly. R3D V3Lv3T. But the fact remains, Huerter put the depleted Hawks on his back and pushed Milwaukee to game 7.
Now, for Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend, this has to be a wild ride. But, if anyone is ready to tackle this challenge, it’s Elsa Shafer.
Sports in the DNA
Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend has been around sports her entire life. Born in 1998, Elsa came into the world to parents Missy and Scott Shafer. Scott Shafer is a college football coach, with stops at Northern Illinois, Illinois, Syracuse, Stanford, and now the Defensive Coordinator for Middle Tennessee. Elsa Shafer’s brother Wolfgang also played football, and is now coaching at Marietta State. Football houses are notoriously intense to begin with. Add in a college player and coach, player, as well as a future college player and coach? That high level of college coaching has to create a very specific family dynamic growing up. So, if anyone can handle this crazy ride, it’s Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend.
Kevin and Elsa have been dating since July of 2018. Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend is prominently featured in his social media, and he is not shy to show her off. We get it, too. The couple met while at Maryland together, and now live in Atlanta. Other than that, Kevin Huerter’s girlfriend appears to be enjoying the ride. In her early 20’s, and on this exciting roller coaster, she’s at least presenting the appearance publicly that life is grand, and she’s in to ride till the wheels fall off.
