- UPDATE: 10-12-2011: After Theo Epstein left the Boston Red Sox to become GM of the Chicago Cubs, the rumor mill immediately starting churning as to who would replace him. Our money to replace Epstein as general manager of the Red Sox is on current Vice President of Player Personnel/former interim-GM/long-time Red Sox understudy, Ben Cherington.
- Fast Facts: Ben Cherington's wife Wendi Nix is a sports reporter for ESPN. Well, we should say ex-wife as they are apparently now divorced. Wendi Nix formerly worked for WHDH in Boston as well as Fox Sports Net, WPDE in South Carolina and NESN. Ben Cherington and Wendy Nix met while he attended Amherst College and she attended UMass Amherst for her Master's degree.
The couple divorced at some point before a 2010 interview with the Myrtle Beach Tribune, in which Wendi announced that her and Ben had divorced. In another interview, this with Coastal Carolina Home & Lifestyle Wendy indicated that she was seeing someone new, saying "I don’t have a husband or kids, but I have someone very important in my life right now and it just requires very good communication and trading calendars". Who might Wendi Nix's boyfriend be? Our research found no clues unfortunately.

The Story
- Theo Epstein married Marie Whitney on January 1, 2007, following a May 2006 engagement. True to his hometown roots, Theo dropped to one knee to propse to Marie at Davio's in Boston's Back Bay. In typically guarded Epstein fashion, he and Marie snuck off for their marriage and subsequent honeymoon successfully dodging paparazzi, bloggers and the frenzied Boston media alike. There are various reports on where the wedding took place, but the most consistent report suggests an odd choice. Marie, who is also from the Boston area, reportedly cited strong childhood memories in choosing their wedding location, which was, seriously, of all places, David's Hot Dogs in New York City. Seriously. In all fairness, Epstein is fiercely guarded of his personal life, so him planting a seed to mislead the public wouldn't shock us at all. Remember the gorilla suit?
Marie was a volunteer at Horizons for Homeless Children in Boston, which serves to help homeless children living in various shelters across the state.
The couple has one son together, Jack, born December 12, 2007.
Much like the post after Francona leaving, as Sox fans running this site, we'd be remiss to not mention the impact Theo's had on all of New England as GM of the Red Sox. 2004 is on Theo without a doubt, and while I hated him for trading Nomar, it's clear he knew the move had to be made. We're probably still swirling in title-less turmoil without his impact.
Best of luck as GM in Chicago, Theo. Go get them their 2004.

- UPDATE: 02/04/2012: Not too far after our last update on Cashman being caught by a private investigator in September, it appears that story finally has its ending: Brian Cashman's wife Mary Cashman has filed for divorce. This all happens only one day after prosecutors charged Louise Neathway with stalking Cashman and attempting to extort money from him in order to keep her quiet about their extramarital affair. Clearly, Mary finally saw the truth when the prosecutors pressed charges against her husband. Though, as some reports have Brian and Mary Cashman separated and living apart for over a year, she likely had a feeling it was all true anyway.
09/29/2011: Now for the ugly part of it.
Deadspin is reporting that during Spring Training of 09, Cashman was caught by private investigators in compromising positions with another woman. The private investigators were hired by the husband of the other woman, Kimberley Brennan, to prove she was having an affair. The pictures ultimately led to Brennan and her husband divorcing. Deadspin reports this story has been floated for years while the owners of the photos and details shopped a book deal. The story is only now being broken after no takers were found. Deadspin was given the scoop after Yankee beat reporters have reportedly known about this story for years, neglecting to report as to avoid antagonizing Yankee brass.
Surely more details to come, and we'll keep you posted.
- Time Together: Brian Cashman and Mary Cashman were married in 1995. They have two children, daughter Grace and son Teddy. In a New York Times profile of Brian, Mary recounts that they scheduled a Caesarian section in June, 2003 during one of the Yankee road trips so Brian could stay home with her. Unfortunately, then owner George Steinbrenner insisted he return to the office that day, and while Brian got the weekend off, had to fight for it.
The entire family lives in Darien, CT.
