The Story
- UPDATE: While researching this yesterday, we saw a number of sites which suggested that Abby Wambach is gay and dating a Washington Freedom teammate Sarah Huffman. Everything we've searched for continues to pull this information, and we're getting flooded with commenters stating this information as fact today as well. While no direct information from Abby via a reputable news source confirms this information, the consistent information suggests one thing: It's a very strong possibility that Abby Wambach is homosexual.
If we see or hear anything to officially verify this, we'll keep you posted. - Abby Wambach does as good a job keeping her private life private as any athlete we've ever seen or researched for this site. There are nothing but rumors, conjecture, and pure rampant speculation about who may be Abby Wambach's boyfriend, or Abby Wambach's girlfriend. There is no confirmation on any front, so rather than continue pure speculation, we'll leave it alone for now, and leave soccer fans to continue rejoicing in her extra time goal against Brazil.

Abby lives with Sarah Huffman, and they have a dog named Kingston. Their twitter accounts say as much. Cohabiting with a dog isn't conclusive evidence, but you see that they've both jumped from Washington to magicjack and the fact they both use "we" when referring to each other online and I think that's enough. Some internet rumors say that Wambach was dating Rapinoe at one point. I do find it uplifting how much more accepting women's teams are of gay players than the men are.

She is an amazing, exhilirating player. She is an inspiration to her teammates, on the US WNT and her local club. She has incredible heart and determination on and off the field, who takes pride representing her country to honor its citizens and the rights and freedoms we all enjoy. I hope some of the homophobes on this sheet can say they do the same in their daily lives. LIVE AND LET LIVE, for sure!!
Besides, didn't the new testament declare Jesus was against all of the extreme hate and bigotry of the past, accepting all of man's children? Maybe those who honor his word should do the same.

I agree with everyone else --- what she does on the field is important and what she does as a role model for younger players is important. Who she is attracted to is not important at all. She doesn't bring her personal life onto the field or to her charity events.

Of course people are interested in her sexuality, not just in the fact that she's a great soccer player...the title of this article is "Who is Abby Wambach's Boyfriend? Or Girlfriend?" and everyone who left a comment (and others who didn't) were interested to read what the story said about her sexuality. If the title of the article was "Abby Wambach, soccer star" or "Abby Wambach's soccer talents", then it might be out of place to discuss her sexuality, but since the article's title was specifically about her sexuality, lets not pretend like sexuality doesn't interest us. Whether or not its any of our business is a separate issue, the fact is, it does matter to us. We may treat each other with respect whether gay or straight, but we still want to know.

Its okay. With each new generation labels/biases are becoming less and less prominent in today society. Eventually all of the people who continually spend their time speaking against Gays and Homosexuality with be almost non existent. Then when they voice their disapproval in a work place or social setting they will be fired or ostracized because they are the very few with small minds. And "straight people" you don't see us seeking you out for your 50% divorce rate. People are acting like this post is malicious. Saying things like "does it matter?". The author made it clear that he/she has no bias and is simply trying to answer a question. With this logic you could ask "does it matter?" about any question that has ever been posed. If you think you're trying to act as some sort of guardian to LBGT community you're just making it worse. You don't see anyone posting things negative things about some high profile actors relationship with a model. You're providing defense to people who don't need defending, which is only furthering the gap for them to receive equal treatment.
