09/04/2012: Sean Avery who?

More than three years after the douchebag line about Sloppy Seconds, Sean Avery's ex girlfriend, Elisha Cuthbert is now engaged to Dion Phaneuf. The couple announced their engagement over the weekend, which coincides with the end of their collective summer vacations.. Cuthbert will return to shooting ABC's show Happy Endings, and Phaneuf back to NHL training camp. There's no date on the wedding as of yet, but our best educated guess would be the summer 2013.
Congratulations to the couple, and to hopefully shutting up Sean Avery once and for all.

Sean Avery is a classy dude.

While gossip blogs like ours normally feed on strong comments and someone actually saying something interesting in the press, Sean Avery likes to push the outer limits in the opposite direction. After Sean Avery dated Elisha Cuthbert for a brief period of time, both parties moved on. Native Canadian Cuthbert loves her some hockey and was able to move on to date another one of Canada's hero son's. Elisha Cutbert began datiing Dion Phaneuf, and the couple progressed in a strong athlete-actress relationship.

Avery apparently didn't like the idea of his ex dating a player for the opposition, or simply wanted the world to know that she was his ex girlfriend. Prior to a game in Calgary, Avery uttered the infamous line:

"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."

Avery was suspended 6 games for this quote, but it now seems to have followed him (plagued him?) though his career. Avery is now out of the league, and Phaenuf is still going strong in the NHL (now with the Toronto Maple Leafs).

While the Sloppy Seconds line still resonates, I wonder who's laughing now?
