Jon Gruden has spent most of the lead up to the 2014 NFL Draft talking up Fresno State QB Derek Carr. We here at PlayerWives are going to take a slightly different approach and talk up Derek Carr’s wife Heather Carr.
Derek and Heather Carr were married June 29, 2012. The couple has one child together, son Dallas, born in August, 2013. An article in the New York Times published that same month described the fearful moments that occurred after Dallas was born. In Dallas’ first moments after birth, Derek observed his young son vomiting a dark green matter. After calling the nurses over, his son was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery to repair a condition causing his intestines to be tied into knots. Three surgeries and plenty of sleepness nights later, Dallas is expected to make a full recovery.
Heather Carr, formerly Heather Neel, is a proud football wife. Her Twitter bio reads: “Christian..Married to the love of my life..Mommy.. Huge Fresno State Football fan! ; ) I am blessed!” Derek helps credit Heather with turning his life around. In the same New York Times article, Carr explains:
“I was out running around, living the life. Everyone wanted to hang out with the Next Big Thing, and I soaked it up like an idiot. I want to go back and punch that guy in the face.”
Carr says Heather helped prioritize what’s important, faith, family and football. We expect to see plenty of the Carr family during draft coverage, but not in the green room. The family has a 20 month old to keep an eye on back home…
