Sage Rosenfels met his wife Maria when the pair attended high school together in Maquoketa, Iowa. The couple has two children, which is why Sage chose to wear the #2 while playing for Minnesota.
Sage is half Jewish, with his father providing this side of his heritage. However, according to the site www.JewOrNotJew.com, Sage is letting his wife Maria raise their children as Christian. In an interview with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Sage’s father Robert explains why Sage was not raised Jewish, and why Sage’s children are not being raised this way:
“It would have been hard for us to be practicing Jews in Maquoketa, Iowa. In the Jewish faith, it’s the woman’s religion that makes you either a Jew or not. My wife is not Jewish.”
