Jordy Nelson’s wife Emily Nelson dumped him in the seventh grade.
We’ve been telling people for years that Jordy and Emily have been together since 6th grade. We have claimed that their long term relationship redefines the term “high school sweethearts”. It seems that Dan LaBatard, while conducting an interview with Jordy recently, probably read our site when preparing for the interview. After Jordy told him that he and his wife began dating freshman year of high school, Dan called him out on this. He told Jordy that he had seen other information that pointed to sixth grade – and again, he probably got that from us. Well, it turns out that we’re right, as usual. Jordy proceeded to admit that he and his wife had in fact begun dating in sixth grade, but that she dumped him a year later! He went back to the well a few years later, and the rest is history.
They grew up in the same town in Kansas, and went to the same schools since kindergarten. Jordy Nelson married his longtime girlfriend Emily Rothlisberger (no relation) in 2007 after proposing on a family vacation to Cancun. Jordy pulled the romantic comedy move of writing out ‘Will You Marry Me,’ in the sand. Of course, everything had the same romantic comedy happy ending – she said yes!
Jordy Nelson’s wife Emily Nelson is a kindergarten teacher at Fort Howard Elementary School in Green Bay. She also runs a mentoring program at the school. While attending college, Emily played basketball for Bethel College. Emily also helps Jordy with his charitable endeavors. The charity most important to them is program called Young Life Green Bay.
This program pairs adult leaders with children, to “[build] bridges of authentic friendship”. Jordy Nelson and wife Emily have hosted the annual Young Life Green Bay Fall Fundraiser on more than one occasion. Also, based in large part on proceeds from the Jordy Nelson Charity Softball Game, the pair contributed $100,000 to the Christian nonprofit.
Jordy equates Green Bay to Kansas, and loves being there as a great place to raise a family. They have one child, a son Royal, born in February, 2010. Jordy loves living on a farm. He equates the hard work necessary to run a farm with the hard work necessary to succeed in the NFL. He also savors the fact that there are no large crowds in farm life.
The couple takes great pride in their Christian faith, with Jordy saying
Now, as a husband, father and, most importantly, as a Christian, I can see the Super Bowl Champion label with a greater perspective. I know it’s an opportunity to share the most important truth of life: the gospel of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Jordy Nelson’s wife Emily Nelson has also played a large role in helping him recover this off-season.
