Joel Embiid’s girlfriend Anne De Paula was introduced to the world in an unexpected way in the professional sports sphere.
He went public with it
In an ESPN story, Embiid came right out with it, rather nonchalantly. Anne De Paula is a Brazilian model who met at dinner with a mutual friend. The relationship took time to develop, and after a period of time just connecting as friends via Facetime it eventually blossomed into more. Joel Embiid’s girlfriend didn’t even know he was a basketball player at first. Which, can we break in for a moment, and ask how. I mean,… how?!?

But still, the relationship prevailed through common interests like soccer, speaking French and starting a family. After a couple years, the two had their first child, Arthur in September of 2020. Arthur was named as a way to honor Joel’s brother who died in a car crash in Cameroon shortly after he was drafted to the NBA.

2022 Status?
In 2022, Embiid’s game has taken the next step. Three quarters of the way through the season, he’s the odds on favorite to take home league MVP honors. Over the last couple years his social media has transformed into a basketball first log with nary a reference to Joel Embiid’s girlfriend. All the posts about Arthur and Anne are still up and haven’t been taken down. That alone is usually the first sign of trouble in paradise. The last post about Anne was almost three years ago, but still this relationship looks to be on solid footing.
