UPDATE: 05-06-2014: Making it a priority to thank his mom, Kevin Durant's MVP acceptance speech drew tears all around. He also thanked his teammates and generally just proved why people like him more than LeBron. No mention of "taking his talents" anywhere.
UPDATE: 07-08-2013: Hopefully Kevin Durant's mother Wanda Pratt approves of his wife choice. The news hit today that Kevin Durant's fiance is Monica Wright.
A few things before we dive into this post:
1. We know it's not his wife, but we're human beings and constantly evolving. You should laud our efforts.
2. We're really doing this post, because there's still no info on who Kevin Durant is dating, or who his girlfriend is.
Look no further than Kevin's mom Wanda as the reason why Kevin is considered one of the most humble stars in the NBA and arguably all professional sports. Wanda is slowly joining the ranks of NBA mothers we recognize at NBA games (with the captain of this team being Ray Allen's mom). Wanda who worked at the postal service, gave birth to Kevin before she married Kevin's father Wayne Pratt. This led to Kevin taking his mother's maiden name as his last name. Wayne would eventually leave Wanda, Kevin and Kevin's brother Tony before Kevin's first birthday leaving all the heavy lifting, i.e. raising two boys, to Wanda. Stop me if you've heard that story before about an NBA player. Being raised by a single parent, usually the mom, is sadly probably in 80% of the bios of NBA players.
When Kevin turned 9 Wanda introduced him to Taras Brown, the man who would become Kevin's mentor and train him throughout his youth. With Wanda's discipline at home and Taras' training in the gym Kevin turned into the NBA star we see now. Eventually Wayne would come back into Kevin's life but Wanda always gets the credit for raising Kevin from Kevin himself. When the NBA finals get started don't be surprised if you see Wanda dancing up a storm in OKC. She is notorious for getting on the jumbotron at OKC home games which always draws a smile from her son Kevin.
