UPDATE: 07/27/2010: After a 5 plus year engagement we can finally say that Carmelo Anthony's wife is LaLa Vazquez. The celebrity couple finally tied the knot in a lavish, star studded wedding event in New York City on July 10, 2010. The event saw the likes of Spike Lee, Justin Timberlake, Kim Kardashian, Ludacris, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Chris Paul(who is rumored to have made a speech declaring that he, Carmelo and Amar'e would start their own big 3 in New York in 2011). Less than 48 hours after "The Decision" LeBron James and girlfriend Savannah Brinson entered the event to a chorus of boos from Knicks fans waiting outside.
Most people are coming here following an altercation involving Carmelo Anthony's girlfriend LaLa Vazquez at a recent game. During the second round of the 2009 playoffs against the Denver Nuggets, La La was ejected from the stands and created an internet video sensation. The video, shown below, shows a clearly agitated La La being escorted from the building. It's extraordinarily rare for any player's family to be ejected from the crowd, but even more rare when the player's family is a celebrity in her own right.
Vazquez later stated that she was subjected to latent racism, and a barrage of insults directed towards her and her son. She stated that she was incensed by the Dallas crowd that culminated in a physical altercation between her and a fan.
In the name of being fair to both sides of the argument. A season ticket holder in the stands issued the following statement regarding the events that transpired:
"LaLa Vazquez was totally out of line and reacted inappropriately. A woman sitting behind Vazquez inadvertently made contact with her while dancing to a song during a time out. Ms. Vazquez immediately reacted with expletives and aggression. The woman tried to apologize and didn't really understand why she was so angry, but then Ms. Vazquez pushed her which led to her being detained by security and removed from the arena.... Ms. Vazquez claims that racism and insults to her child were the reasons for her aggression are completely unfounded. Her child was not with her but with a nanny and was not a topic of insults or discussion at all. I heard no racism and was definitely within hearing distance. Her reaction was immature and borderline scary."
LaLa rose to fame as a veejay on MTV's now defunct "Total Request Live." She has continued working in the Viacom family tree hosting many reunion shows on VH1's "Flavor of Love," "Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School," and "I Love New York."
The couple became engaged on Christmas Day, 2004. Together they also have a son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, born in 2007
