The Washington Nationals have clinched the best record in baseball and are one of the favorites heading into the post season. Raise your hand if you thought that would happen back in April (to those raising your hand – put it down, liar[Editor's Note: I picked the Nats and the author of this post knows it]). So as the Nationals continue to surprise the nation, we here at Playerwives are more dedicated then ever in reporting on their significant others.
One of the players with a serious case of “Natitude” is starting shortstop Ian Desmond. He is probably one of the few players left on the team that was actually drafted when the club was still the Montreal Expos. Although some questioned his ability to hit in the majors, he has proven his doubters wrong and become a serious threat in the Nationals lineup. He is also very active with Nats fans on Twitter, periodically asking trivia questions to win signed baseballs and tickets to games.
But there is one aspect of Desmond’s life that he wasn’t as ambitious in – his love life. It was actually Ian Desmond’s wife Chelsey Desmond that made the first move. She reportedly had very good timing, sending Desmond an instant message (side note – when’s the last time you used that as your means of communication?) when he was thinking about her. You see, Ian and Chelsey have known each other since he was 5, but he had always been too scared to talk to her. Lucky for him she was just as interested, and things have gone great since that fateful day.
Ian and Chelsea now live in Sarasota, where each grew up. They were married in January 2010 and had their first child, son Grayson, on April 27, 2011.
