The Story

Fast Facts: Mariano Rivera and Billy Wagner come into the game to "Enter Sandman" by Metallica. Jonathan Papelbon enters to "Shipping Up to Boston," by the Dropkick Murphy's. Jason Bay used to come to the plate to "Down with the Sickness," by disturbed. Manny Ramirez has come out to "The Final Countdown," by Europe and "Because I got High" by Afroman at various times in his career.
Now what do these songs all have in common? Well besides the fact that they can all get someone pumped up before an inning or an at bat, none of them are chosen as a shameless plug for a friend or family member.

Today's story is about a lil' fella named Ben Zobrist. Ben starts each at bat to a song called "The Tree." It's a light Christian rock song that is sung by a lesser known artist by the name of... Julianna Zobrist. Yes folks, Ben Zobrist enters the game to a song by his wife.
Quote: OK, I'm probably being a little harsh here. To be fair, everyone I know gets jacked up and hyped to a soft melody sung by their wife and musically accompanied by what sounds like a late 80's model Casio keyboard. So maybe this isn't self serving at all. Maybe the lil' guy just likes the song a lot, right? Let's ask the Zobrist's:
"As soon as she put the CD out, I knew it was something I wanted to do," Ben said. “I was so thrilled that he did(use the song),” Julianna said. “It’s hard to compete with all the great artists out there.”
That sounds an awful lot like two people acknowledging that he's using this song to sell CD's, and not get ready to step up to the dish.

Why shouldn't he promote his wife? What is wrong with that? If his wife is the love of his life, and the fact that he married her is a strong indication, what better inspiration than hearing her sing before he steps up! Also, regarding the quality of the music are you saying that being the relative of someone famous automatically diminishes the quality of what you do? Nepotism rules in entertainment and politics and I don't thing Ben has anything to be ashamed of compared to Mr. Ramirez for example.

Who says he doesn't get pumped up by his wife's song? I've been to a game and seen him knock it out of the park! So, stop bashing him and/or his wife. They sound like two people in love! It's not like they announce the song his walking up to. Jeez, people get a life. Not everything is business related. He's in love and gets pumped listening to his wife sing!!

I think I'd be more surprised if he DIDN'T have a song from his wife play when he came up. It's called being supportive of your family.

In a world where we're constantly hearing about famous ppl and pro athletes cheating on their wives w hundreds of women, I think this is rather refreshing.

I think it is wonderful that Ben is promoting his wife. Obviously know one knows the detail of their support to each other, but I know Ben's walkup song is his wife's and I wished when she sang at the Playoffs in 2010, she was wearing a Rays jersey demonstrating her support to him and the Rays. Even her son was not wearing a Rays jersey. I would have thought that she would have dressed him in the Zobrist 18 shirt for his son...

I am a "big" Rays fan and I just hope that Juliana will demonstrates in public her support to her husband next time.
